Nature Walk – The Audubon Society of Central Maryland will sponsor a nature walk Saturday, Feb. 20, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Fred Archibald Audubon Sanctuary, on the east side of Boyer’s Mill Rd., one mile north of Rt. 144 in New Market. The nature walk will lead participants into some of the more remote parts of the 140-acre sanctuary, covering about three miles. Wear sturdy shoes and clothing appropriate for the predicted weather. There are no restroom facilities. The walk will be canceled in the event of inclement weather or deep snow. Basket Bingo – Winfield Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a Basket Bingo with proceeds to support the activities of BSA Troop 733 on Friday, Feb. 26. Turkey/Oyster/Ham Dinner – The Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting its turkey, oyster and ham dinner at the Carnival Grounds, Rt. 27 and Twin Arch Rd., Mt. Airy, on Sunday, March 7, beginning at noon. Turkey, oysters and ham will be served along with hot vegetables and a bake table. Cost is $15 for adults, $8 for children age 5 to 12, and children under age 5 eat free. All proceeds benefit the fire company.

 

Wednesday Dinners – The Counties Four VFW Post 10076 Ladies Auxiliary is serving dinners on the second Wednesday of the month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is $8 per person and benefits the Ladies Auxiliary programs. The post is located at 111 S. Main St., Mt. Airy. Parking is available in the town parking lot with entry to the VFW off Veterans La. The menu for March 10 is baked ziti. Open House/Adoption Event – A March Madness Open House and Adoption Event, sponsored by the Animal Welfare League of Frederick County, will be held Saturday, March 13, to celebrate the opening of the new Adoption Center, 1202 E. Health Fair – The second annual Mt. Airy Health Fair, sponsored by the 4 County Lions Club and ICARE (International Cancer Alliance for Research and Education) will be held Saturday, March 20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Health Unlimited Fitness Center, 103 Century Drive, Mt. Airy. The health fair will feature speakers, free health screenings, food vendors and fun. Psychologists, dentists, pharmacists and other health professionals will be on hand to speak to attendees. Bull Roast – The South Carroll High School Athletic Boosters Annual Bull Roast and Silent Auction will be held at the Winfield Fire Hall on Saturday, March 20, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Please come out to support your local high school for this fun filled evening. All proceeds benefit South Carroll High School athletes directly. Tickets will be $35 per person, or $300 for a table of 10. This event will be catered by CarterQue in Mt. Airy and will include traditional pit beef, sides, desserts and beverages including beer and wine. You may bring your own alcohol as well. Grief Support – Have you lost a spouse, child, family member or friend? GriefShare Support Group is for people grieving the loss of someone close. This group is sponsored by people who understand what you are experiencing and want to offer you comfort and encouragement during this difficult time. GriefShare meets on Wednesday evenings beginning Feb. 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Chapelgate Church, 2600 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville. Softball Registration – The Maryland Stars Girls Fastpitch Softball Program has a few roster openings on their 12U, 14U, 16, and 18U teams for the 2010 season. The Stars are a select fastpitch program that plays a tournament only schedule during the spring and summer with teams playing 10-12 events during this time. Historical Society Meetings – The Mt. Airy Historical Society meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Mt. Airy Fire House, 702 North Main Street, Mt. Airy.

 

Sewing Guild Meetings – The Central Maryland group of the Maryland chapter of the American Sewing Guild hosts monthly meetings the third Tuesday of every month at the Mt. Airy Town Hall, 110 S. Family Fun Night – Families, singles, young and old are invited to Family Fun Night on the first Friday of the month. Bring a game, a snack or dessert and a fun spirit. Childcare provided for a small fee. Annual membership includes membership to MOPS International. Alcoholics Anonymous – Calvary U.M. Church, 403 S. Main Street, Mt. Airy, will host open meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous Wednesday nights at 8:30 p.m.

 

AA Meeting – AA meetings will be held every Sunday at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 1307 N. Main St., Mt. Airy, beginning at 7 p.m.

Frederick Ski Club – The Frederick Ski Club provides social activities year round as well as wintertime fun. MOMS Club – The MOMS Clubฎ of New Market/Mt. Airy-West is a support group for stay-at-home mothers living within the New Market and Twin Ridge elementary school boundaries. MOMS Club – The MOMS Clubฎ of Kemptown/Green Valley meets the first Monday every month, 10 a.m. to noon, at Providence U.M.C., 3735 Kemptown Church Road. Most activities are during the day when stay-at-home moms need support the most. Children are welcome. Celebrate Recovery – Every Friday night from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., West Falls Christian Community Church will host "Celebrate Recovery," a 12-step Christian-based recovery program to help people deal with life's hurts, habits and hang-ups.
