Swim Team Registration The Ridge Seals Swim Team (RSST) registration is now open for new and returning eligible swimmers younger than 19 as of June 1, 2008. RSST participates in the FSSL Division III and holds practices and meets at the Ridge Swim Club, 309 Beck Drive, Mt. Airy. You do not have to be a club member to join the team. Practices start May 27 and meets are Saturdays in June and July. Registration forms, volunteer signup, team handbook, and schedule are available on-line at www.rsst.org. Spaghetti Dinner An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be held Wednesday, April 16, beginning at 4:30 p.m., at the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department, 1320 W. Old Liberty Rd., Sykesville. Dinner includes spaghetti with meat sauce or marinara sauce, tossed salad and bread sticks. Cost is $6.50 for adults and $3.25 for children age 3 to 10. Carry outs are available for $7.50.

Audubon Program Come to the Mt. Airy Library on Thursday evening, April 17, at 7 p.m. to learn about Gardening for Wildlife using Native Plants. Jane Slade, a master gardener and ex-teacher at Mt. Airy Middle, who designed and implemented many student gardens at the school, now has her own landscape business, Native Plant Designs. Slade will share her passion for plants and yard design. Production The Liberty High School Drama Department is presenting a production of The Pirates of Penzance on April 17, 18. 19, 24, 25, and 26. All shows will be at 7 p.m. Written in 1879, Pirates is one of Gilbert and Sullivans greatest comic operas. Adventure, romance and comedy combine to ensure a great evening of entertainment. All performances will be presented in the Liberty High School auditorium. Admission is $7 at the door or $6 if purchased in advance at the school at 5855 Bartholow Road in Eldersburg.
Friday Night Buffets American Legion Post 191, 901 Prospect Rd., Mt. Airy, will host Friday Night Buffets. The buffets are held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at a cost of $10 per person. Upcoming buffets: April 18 fried chicken and roast beef; April 25 roast beef and catfish.
Benefit Dance The Brunswick 2008 Safe and Sane Committee will hold a fundraiser benefit dance Friday, April 18, 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Brunswick Eagles Club, featuring local Rock-n-Roll band Blind Dog. Pancake/Sausage Breakfast An all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast will be held Saturday, April 19, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Prospect U.M. Church, 5923 Woodville Rd., Mt. Airy. Menu includes buckwheat and regular pancakes, country sausage and all the fixins, milk, juice and coffee. Vendor Expo The Damascus Heritage Society will sponsor a Vendor Expo on Saturday, April 19 at the Damascus Recreation Center, Rt. 27 and Oak Drive, Damascus. Home vendors, local artisans, and crafts people will have products for sale. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This is a fund raising event to benefit the Damascus Museum Project. Fundraiser A roller skating fundraiser is being held to benefit MacKenzie Stuck and family. MacKenzie is a local 5th grader at Mt. Airy Elementary who is battling a recurrent brain tumor, and we are raising money to help with their enormous medical bills. The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, April 19, from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the Wheels Skating Center in Odenton. Tickets are $10. Wednesday Dinners Counties Four VFW Post 10076 in Mt. Airy, 111 S. Main St., holds dinners on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month through May. The cost of the dinners is $ 7.50 per person and is served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There is parking in the town community parking lot with entry through the back door off Veterans Lane or the front door off S. Main St. The menus are as follows: April 23 turkey dinner with all the trimmings; May 14 - pork chops; May 28 spaghetti and lasagna. Dinners benefit the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and their programs.
Jaycees Yard Sale The Mt. Airy Jaycees are getting ready for the Big Spring Yard Sale on Saturday, April 26 at the Mt. Airy Fireman's Carnival Grounds (Twin Arch and Rt. 27). With over 300 vendors, this is one yard sale you do not want to miss. Vendor spaces are $35 a space (Grass 14x20/ Hardtop 9x18) pre-registered by April 18, $45 there after. Pavilion spaces are also available at $45 a space (limited amount). Shoppers are free admission. Basket Bingo The New Market District Lions Club is sponsoring a basket bingo Saturday, April 26, at the Libertytown Fire Hall. Parade of Horses Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) will host a free Movin On Up Parade celebrating their move to a spacious 58-acre farm. On Saturday, April 26, 12 noon to 1 p.m., Days End horses, mounted police and rescue vehicles carrying officials from various animal rescue groups will make their way from the old farm in Lisbon, 15856 Frederick Rd., to the new one in Woodbine, 1372 Woodbine Rd., less than a mile away. Following the parade will be a ribbon cutting ceremony, tours and refreshments. Walkers raising a minimum of $100 in sponsorship may join the parade. Annual Dinner Howard Chapel-Ridgeville United Methodist Church, 1970 Long Corner Road, Mt. Tennis Event West Winds Rally for the Cure Tennis Event, benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, will be held Sunday, April 27, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at West Winds Tennis & Fitness Center, 11411 Gas House Pike, New Market. Group instructional clinics, focusing on doubles play taught by several of resident pros as well as guest professionals, will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Doubles matches begin at 11 a.m. You will have the opportunity to play with a pro after participating in the group clinic. At 2 p.m. lunch will be provided for all the participants. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., enjoy a wine and cheese reception and silent auction. Contribution is $40 per participant for the entire event. Fishing Derby The Mt. Airy Lions Club will host their 16th annual fishing derby Saturday, May 3 at Prospect Park, Mt. Airy. Sign up begins at 7:30 a.m., derby begins at 8 a.m. Children 2 to 16 years old are welcome. Children need rod, bait, and stringer or pail. Puppy Raising Classes Guiding Eyes for the Blind is looking for local volunteers to open their hearts and homes to a future guide dog puppy. All training, support, and veterinary expenses are provided free of charge and the only requirement is a love of dogs.
