Lions thankful for support
As published June 20, 2007

The Mt. Airy Lions Club would like to thank our community for supporting our 61st annual carnival, June 4 to 9. The six days are when the Lions Club earns the money that it will use to fund the numerous community projects we will support during our next year of community service beginning on July 1.

The motto of Lions Club's International is "We Serve" and the Mt. Airy Lions Club is certainly no exception to this motto. The people we help and the programs we support affect hundreds of people, ranging in age from the youth in the community to our senior citizens. While vision programs remain our priority, we do so very much more.

The members of the Mt. Airy Lions Club are all volunteers who give freely of their own valuable time so that others in the community who may be have fallen on hard times are able to benefit from the services we provide.

Every person working in the food booths, the ride ticket booths and some of the games volunteers to be there. Most are employed full time and most rush home from a long day at work or a few even use their valuable vacation days to spend 5 or 6 hours every night working over a hot grill cooking hamburger, frying french fries, funnel cakes or sausages and then serving it to you with a friendly smile. When you go home and go to bed, we are still there cleaning up and preparing for the next day.

We would remiss in mentioning those individuals and groups who come out to work side by side the Mt. Airy Lions to help make our carnival a success. These are members of the other service clubs in Mt. Airy, our good friends from the Laytonsville Lions Club, parents of the groups we support financially, family and friends of club members and just regular folks who simply call us and volunteer to help each and every year.

We also want to thank the Mt. Airy Fire Company and their carnival grounds committee for their cooperation in making sure everything functions at the grounds prior to the start of our carnival. They have the absolute best carnival grounds in the area. We ask you to support them during their carnival, which will be held in late July.

If you would like to explore the opportunity of becoming a member of the world's oldest and largest service club call us at 301-829-LION and leave your name and telephone number or send us an email at mtairylions@aol.com. A member of the Mt. Airy Lions Club will contact you and invite you to a meeting. For it is there you will discover the true meaning of what we call the "Lions Sprit" and why we proudly say, "We Serve".

Thank you for successful Mayfest

I want to thank the many people who helped make the 2007 Mt. Airy Main Street Mayfest a success. Along with the many festival attendees, crafters, and vendors, the following people, businesses, and organizations helped to make it possible:

Mt. Airy Lions Club, Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company, S&K Roofing, Gladhill Tractor, F&M Bank, Provident Bank, Sun Trust Bank, Damascus Community Bank, Lone Cedar Farm, Civil Air Patrol, J&P Pizza, Mayor and Town Council, Todd Brickman, Rob Scranton, Brian Gallager, Jim and Debbie King, Bob Bingaman, Ann Giaquinto, Alexis McKenzie, Ricky Lawson, Charlie Samuels, Mark Moxley and Crew, Forever Flowers, St. James Thrift Shop, and The Candy Bar.

Without the participation of everyone mentioned here, it would be impossible to have the Mayfest. My sincere thanks and appreciation go to all of you. Look forward to another successful event, with your help, next year. See you then.
