Willah J. Christner

Willah Jane (Vallance) Christner, 68, of Silver Spring died Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Carroll Hospital Center. She was the spouse of the late Kenneth James Christner.

She was born Aug. 8, 1941 in Gibsonburg, Ohio, the daughter of the late Lennis Eugene Vallance and the late Frances Gwendolyn (Strasel) Vallance.

Mrs. Christner was the Department Head of Data Processing at AFSCME. She enjoyed trips to Charlestown.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Christine Christner of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Anthony James, Abigail Rose Christner; brother, John Vallance of Ocala, Fla; and sisters, Sue Hofacker of Tampa, Fla., and Carol Baw of Jacksonville, Md.

Preceded in death by sisters, Nancy Wonderly and Jean Vallance; and brother, Dennis Vallance.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, 2 p.m., at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd., Winfield, MD 21784.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Sterling E. Cullison

Sterling Earle Cullison, 85, of Mt. Airy died Thursday, Jan. 28 in Ft. Myers, Fla. He was the spouse of 52 years to the late Frances Yingling Cullison who died in 1995.

He was born Sept. 29, 1924 in Hampstead, the son of the late Clara Burk Cullison Fowble and Richard Earle Cullison.

Mr. Cullison was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mt. Airy. He graduated from Hampstead High School in 1941 and Strayer Business School.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII stationed in the United States. He worked for Warfield Chevrolet and Clements Chevrolet, and was the owner and operator of Liberty Dry Cleaning and Laundromat until retirement in 1989. He drove part time for Jeff Barnes Chevrolet.

He was a member of Mt. Airy Lions Club and American Legion Gold Star Post 191 in Mt. Airy. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, dancing and big band music. He liked to spend January through April in Florida and enjoyed bus trips in his later years.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy deWitt and Doug Dutterer of Mt. Airy and Connie Sue and Ronnie Shipley of Frostburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry E. and Mickey Cullison of Kingwood, W.V.; grandchildren, Jennifer Cullison Stanford, Amy Cullison, Gretchen deWitt Laufer, Matthew deWitt, Jessica and Jackson Shipley;. step-grandchildren, Debby Benefield and Dan Dutterer; great-grandchildren, Meghan, Madison, Kaci, Ryan, Brooke, and Jayden; step great-grandchildren, Justin, Jakob; and a very special friend, Ruth Knatz of Hampstead. He is preceded in death by a sister, Iona Mae Cullison.
